Andrew Wood has described Lowe’s paintings as ‘spiritually-charged otherworldly paintings on post-quake salvaged canvasses inspired by the Taoist traditions of Chinese landscape paintings’. Two of the paintings contain references to the recent earthquakes in Christchurch and Japan, including the loosely painted brushwork of the overturned vessel this work, Ghost Ship.
